An accident at a tractor pull has left five people injured, with two critically injured, in Boelus last week.
According to Howard County Sheriff Tom Busch in a recent press release, the accident occurred about 2:45 p.m. when a tractor and the sled that it was pulling “went through the far end of the track, colliding with multiple vehicles, event staff and participants of the event.”
Authorities say that no spectators who were attending the event were injured. Those injured in the incident were taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. The president of the Nebraska Truck and Tractor Pullers Association, Rick Bradley, said that the incident is unlike any other event since this has ever happened before at any other tractor pulls.
According to Bradley, a tractor pull event that is set for Saturday in Gibbon will proceed as scheduled.
Tractor pulls are exciting events that happen at fairs around the country. Even though these widely used farm implements are necessary for the operations of farms and other agribusinesses, there are thousands of accidents each year involving tractors.
