It’s winter and that means it’s time for sledding and other snow activities, but sledding can be quite dangerous if it isn’t controlled. It’s difficult to brake suddenly, and crashes do happen. One just happened in Greenville in fact.
On a West View St. hillside, a group of people decided to go sledding on a metal truck bed cover. It appears that at least six people got onto it and began down the hill. Sleds are normally built for one or two people, so this was already a dangerous situation.
When the sled hit the bottom of the hill and kept going, it crossed a road and then hit a tree with enough force to send the makeshift sled over a fence. Five children and one adult were hospitalized from the incident. Thankfully, none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Whenever someone engages in an outdoor activity, all safety precautions must be followed. If not, it could open someone up to a liability lawsuit. In this case, proper sleds should have been used rather than a sheet of metal.
