Our nationwide law firm is currently filing injury lawsuits against the manufacturers of IVC filters, C.R. Bard and Cook Medical. Patients who have had these IVC Filters implanted have alleged that they have suffered severe internal bleeding, inferior vena cava rupturing, device migration to the heart, liver, and other organs, and device fragmentation that has lead to countless surgeries and 39 total deaths(2004-2015).

The lawsuits allege that these drug companies failed to disclose the risk of the deadly side effects. C.R. Bard, an IVC filter manufacturer with around 43% of the market share, has had two separate IVC Filters associated with serious medical injuries over the last 12 years. After hundreds of complaints in 2004, including device fractures that sent metal shards into organs such as the heart and liver, causing death and severe injury, C.R. Bard did not notify the FDA, warn the public, or discontinue selling their product. Instead of warning patients, they hired a PR firm.

Eventually, Bard discontinued the original "Recovery" filter and began selling a modified filter called "G2". The new filter was marketed and implanted just as often as the previous, but had just as many complications. Bard knew about the complications, and In an internal memo from an executive at Bard, and executive admits adverse side effects were a concern only a few months after its release.

In 2010, the FDA issued a warning to patients and doctors concerning IVC filters, claiming 921 accounts of complications, and to remove the devices as soon as possible

Time to pursue a claim is limited depending on the statute of limitations in the state where you reside. If you or a love one have had an IVC filter implanted or suffered injuries, call us today for a free and confidential consultation to learn about your rights.

If you experience any of these symptoms, contact a doctor immediately

NOTE: Symptoms are not necessary to file an IVC filter claim. Merely having certain IVC filters implanted can qualify.

IVC Internal Bleeding

Patients who have had IVC filters implanted face a high risk of IVC rupture.

Regardless of whether the filter is implanted properly, filters can move, warp, or tear at the walls of the IVC, rupturing blood vessel. Internal bleeding can occur in the IVC when the lining tears, or it can occur when pieces break off and make tears in the heart or other organs. As of 2010 alone, the FDA has reported 70 inferior vena cava perforations.

One of the biggest concerns for patients is internal bleeding, as it can happen at any time and quickly cause life threatening injuries or death, which is why it is necessary to both contact your medical doctor about your insert and an attorney to insure that you get justice for your claim and compensation for your injuries and medical bills.

IVC Migration

When an IVC Filter is implanted, the long spider like legs dig into the walls of the blood vessel to hold it into place. Unfortunately, these devices do not work as intended, and often will break away from the vessel wall sending it into other organs. In 2010 alone, the FDA announced 328 instances of filter migrationa and 146 device detatchments.

Some patients pursuing lawsuits against Bard and Cook have had device migration to the heart, liver, and even as far as causing ruptures in the lungs.

It is important to consult your doctor and an experience attorney to ensure you are best protected from the device inside your body and compensated for your pain, suffering, and medical bills

Filter Fracturing

The long spider-like legs of an IVC filter are often very flimsy, and can break free and cause injury. In one case reported on by NBC News, a mother was rushed to the hospital when a metal shard from the filter broke off and entered her heart. In 2010, the FDA announced a finding of 56 separate filter fractures causing injuries to patients.

Thankfully, after multiple surgeries, she survived. It is important to contact a doctor immediately to insure that you are protected from device fracturing, and to contact an IVC Filter attorney so that you can get compensation for your injuries and high medical bills resulting from the IVC filter

An IVC filter is a "spider-like" metal contraption used to prevent blood clots from reaching the heart and causing pulmonary embolisms. Since 1999, over 2,590,000 IVC filters have been implanted in patients, and most patients do not know that they have a claim.

Soon after IVC filters hit the market, injuries and adverse incident reports began being filed against the manufacturers, alleging complications such as IVC trauma, penetration of cava wall by legs, filter migration, filter fracture, filter infection, caval thrombosis, and death related to all of the above.

In 2010, a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that IVC filter patients had nearly double the rate of in-hospital mortality.
