New Years Eve Celebration Lands Man in Hospital

New Years Eve celebrations are something many people look forward to all year long. For Timothy Crouse Hester, 41, of Lincolnton, shooting off his black powder cannon was a part of his New Year’s Eve plans. The cannon, which Mr. Hester had shot off several times previously that evening, suddenly brought his own enjoyment to an explosive halt when it unexpectedly detonated in his face, causing second degree burns and damage to the cornea of one of his eyes.

He was thrown across his porch and landed against the door of his home, where paramedics and firefighters found him after responding to an emergency call. Deputies arrived on scene around 1 a.m. and seized his home made cannon as evidence in their investigation into the incident. Mr. Hester was expected to be released from Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston Salem, where he had been airlifted too by medical helicopter after initially being taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Lincoln, on Friday, January 3rd.

No one plans on suffering injuries when they plan a party or family gathering, but as we all know, accidents happen even when all necessary precautions are taken. The average person, reasonably, believes that the products they purchase, as well as the parts they procure for the assembly of home projects, are safe and of appropriate, advertised quality.
