On July 1, Timothy Eugene Jones was struck by a car while riding his bicycle, and police spent several days finding the hit-and-run driver.
Authorities say Jones, of Newberry, South Carolina, was riding his bicycle on U.S. Highway 76 near Colony Church Road outside of Newberry, around 11 PM that night. A car hit him from behind, then sped away. Jones was thrown from his bicycle, and sadly died at the scene.
Officials sought the public’s help in tracking down the hit-and-run driver, releasing information about the vehicle. On Friday, July 3, Friday, South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested 19-year-old Jesus Ramirez and charged with leaving the scene of a collision with death.
