Depending on your individual situation, you may or not be driving very much due to Covid-19 and the work and school restrictions that have brought much of our world to a halt. If you have been at home and away from our usually very busy roads, you may expect that the roads would look fairly empty. While the roads are certainly less traveled than they were before Covid-19, please do not think that they are barren, and please do not think they are slow – they are not!
With fewer cars on the roads – a recent news article is reporting that some drivers are going too fast! Maybe it is because of fewer cars on the road or maybe it is because these drivers are assuming police are not actively patrolling, but whatever it is, it just needs to stop! Law enforcement officers forced to pull over super speeders during the Covid-19 pandemic is a serious issue because it not only is taking them away from other calls or emergencies they could be responding to, but it puts them at risk of contracting Covid-19.
Speeding is not also dangerous but it is expensive! If you get pulled for a significant speeding violation you can lose your license and you may have to pay a serious fine. Additional costs could include legal fees, court costs, and increased car insurance rates. In some jurisdictions, depending on how fast you are going when you are caught – you may have to go to jail. While most speeding violations are not going to result in jail or prison – why risk it? With fewer people on the road, chances are you that you will have light traffic. If you plan your trip(s) and leave at an appropriate time, you will not need to speed.
