First discovered in 1970, Monsanto’s glyphosate would become the main ingredient in its new herbicide. This new formula was named Roundup Weed & Grass Killer and in 1974 it was introduced to a very receptive user group — the farmers of our country and many others. As a North Carolina property owner, you will no doubt recognize Roundup as a ‘household name,’ and you may even have a bottle of it under your sink right now.

What you need to be aware of is the recently proven hazardous connections between the regular use of Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma-related cancers! And, if you or a loved one is concerned that this news may just be the source of your medical condition, then Auger & Auger Accident and Injury Lawyers in North Carolina is ready to fight for your family. When you contact us at (800) 559-5741, you can expect us to do whatever it takes to make certain you are compensated fairly.

  • Have you used Roundup Weed & Grass Killer over the years to control weeds in your garden or personally owned acreage?
  • Are you a groundskeeper or landscaper who has consistently applied Roundup weed killer in your occupation?
  • Are you a farmer using genetically-engineered crops which are purported to be glyphosate-tolerant, such as Monsanto’s Roundup Ready Soybeans?

What’s Behind the Roundup Weed Killer Lawsuits?

Though openly used for decades around the globe as a ‘presumably safe and effective’ herbicide, Roundup and its main ingredient ‘glyphosate’ began to attract negative attention before the turn of the century. Monsanto’s blatantly misleading advertisements that Roundup was “as safe as table salt” (and was even biodegradable) brought backlash from the United States, France, and the European Union from 1996 through 2007.

Meanwhile, studies began to equate Roundup’s increased usage with the proliferation of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This medical condition was found to be frequent among groundskeepers, farmers and large property owners regularly using the herbicide. As victims began to pursue litigation against Monsanto — owned by Bayer since June of 2018 — both companies continued to downplay the concerns of Roundup users, while distribution increased.

Let the Monsanto Roundup Lawsuits Begin

At long last, the message finally changed when the jury in the landmark 2018 Monsanto Roundup lawsuit proposed an award of $289 million for San Francisco groundskeeper Dewayne Johnson. Though Johnson’s payout was reduced by the judge to $78 million, it would spark two more momentous lawsuits in 2019 for which plaintiffs received $80 million and $87 million, respectively.

It was the 2nd case for plaintiff Edward Hardeman in early 2019 that would bring to light the fact that Monsanto had been ghostwriting scientific papers for government agencies (such as the EPA) for many years! These conclusions were published in the public space and consistently employed to dispel the cancer theories which continued to develop. By allowing this evidence into court, Hardeman’s judge exposed Monsanto’s versions as purposely constructed to undermine and dismantle studies by other scientists and toxicology experts.

In August of 2019, new owner Bayer floated a proposition to resolve pending and future Roundup lawsuits with an $8 billion class settlement. In multidistrict litigation (MDL) thousands of similar victims’ cases may share evidence, however, the specific degree of impact on each plaintiff’s life will determine their award. On the 9th of August, CNBC reported that Bayer’s attempt to find a financially reasonable settlement had resulted in the company’s shares soaring as much as 11%.
