With accident reports containing important information necessary to help evaluate your claim (diagrams of the scene, witness statements and contact information, responding officer observations, etc.), it’s important to obtain your copy right away if you or a loved one is involved in a motor vehicle crash. Auger & Auger has helped victims of car, truck, tractor-trailer, pedestrian, and even golf-cart motor vehicle crashes for over 20 years. Call our office at (919) 390-0339 if you would like assistance in obtaining your crash report. Reports are only provided to individuals directly involved in an accident. We do not provide reports to third parties such as attorneys, or insurance carriers.
When a Durham police officer responds to the scene of an accident, they assign codes in the crash report that are small and easy-to-miss to assess fault for the accident. If you choose to call our office, we can not only help you find these codes but help interpret them for you, letting you know who the police officer blames for the accident. Insurance carriers’ adjusters use these same codes to assess fault as well.
Unfortunately, the Durham Police Department does not provide an online source for obtaining accident reports. Please see below for other options on how to obtain your crash report.
Wreck reports are available at the Records Division of the Durham Police Department headquarters, located at 505 West Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
You can call Durham Police Headquarters Record Division at (919) 560-4423. It would help to have any of the information listed above available upon calling to guarantee a speedy search. A desk officer will guide you further upon calling. Alternatively, you may fax (919) 560-4987 to request a copy of your crash report. Please be advised; Durham Police Department may charge a nominal fee for this service.
