A tragic crash left two people dead and another injured in Greensboro, NC, after a car crossed the median, causing a collision.

Greensboro authorities say the accident happened around 4:22 PM on Tuesday, June 22. 19-year-old Priya Hairston, of Summerfield, was driving a gray Nissan Altima eastbound on the interstate near McConnell Road. That’s when her car left the eastbound lanes, crossed over the center median, and moved onto the westbound lanes. The Nissan struck two vehicles there, a Kia Sorento and a Jeep, and was hit by a third westbound car.

Sadly, the Kia’s driver, 51-year-old Lisa Tate, and a passenger, 18-year-old Victoria Padilla, both died from injuries sustained in the accident. A third passenger, Tate’s 17-year-old daughter, was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Family members say Tate was taking the two girls on a trip to West Virginia to celebrate their recent high school graduation.

The drivers of the other vehicles involved did not suffer any injuries.

Hairston is charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving left of center.

Head-on crashes can have many causes. The most common is distracted driving, followed by driving while tired, failing to adjust driving for weather conditions, using poor techniques when passing another vehicle, driving under the influence, and ignoring traffic lights or signs. Driving carefully and obeying traffic laws can help reduce the risk of an accident.
