Relay for Life Looking for Greater Participation

illuminated paper bagsThe team here at Auger & Auger Law enjoys a variety of community activities and look for opportunities to both support local organizations and garner participation. It has come to our attention that Relay for Life of Greater Charlotte is looking to boost numbers when it comes to participants, volunteers, and staff.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Relay for Life. Felisha Fletcher, the new community manager for Relay for Life of Greater Charlotte, says that building awareness is one of her primary missions for the organization. There is tremendous growth potential in the Charlotte area which includes, Ballantyne, West Charlotte and Matthews-Mint Hill.

Held annually across the nation, the Relay for Life raises both money and awareness for the fight against cancer. Spearheaded by the American Cancer Society, the walks are open to anyone who is interested in participating.

When speaking to community members, Fletcher quickly discovered that there is a feeling that there is simply not enough involvement. There are not as many cancer survivors participating as the organization would hope for. Past participants encourage new walkers to join the Relay for Life family. Rather than a day of mourning, the day is spent celebrating the lives of those who have passed and those who are surviving. The event is an uplifting celebration of life that serves as an inspiration to anyone who has been touched by cancer.

In order to raise awareness for both the organization and its major fund raiser, Relay for Life has announced several events ahead of the May 29 finale. Fletcher is also working on getting agencies involved, including police departments, fire departments, and City Council. To date, the Ballantyne Relay for Life has raised just under $9,000. There are 22 teams and 85 participants registered.

The Relay for Life event will include concerts, the lighting of luminaries and more. The signature survivor lap will also be included. Anyone who has participated in or watched a walk knows how emotional this walk can be. Imagine dozens of cancer survivors emoting nothing but joy and positivity as they are supported by those they love. It is truly a sight to behold.

You can read much more about the Relay for Life and how to get involved on the organization’s website. We encourage every past, present, and future client of ours to participate. Join us as we support this amazing celebration of life here in Charlotte.
