A car crash on Sunday night, July 19, left a Winston-Salem, NC, resident dead after an inebriated driver crossed into oncoming traffic.
The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. in the 3600 blocks of Indiana Avenue, according to authorities. They say that Stephanie Arely Lopez, 27, was driving south, and Marco Vin Carillo-Martinez, 40, was driving north on the road. Carillo-Martinez suddenly swerved into Lopez’ lane, hitting her vehicle. Sadly Lopez was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Carillo-Martinez left the scene of the accident, but police later tracked him down. He was charged with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle, Driving While Impaired, Felony Hit & Run, No Operators License, and Driving Left of Center.
Unfortunately, Winston-Salem PD reports this is the ninth motor vehicle fatality they’ve responded to in 2020.
